As The Doors would later learn, if you make Ed Sullivan mad, you will be banned from his show.
Bo Diddley found this out himself on November 20, 1955. Diddley was the first African-American ever to appear on the show and also the first to be banned.
Apparently he was supposed to perform a cover of "Sixteen Tons" but chose instead, without informing anyone ahead of time, to play his number one hit "Bo Diddley." You would think it would make sense to perform your current hit, but apparently Sullivan didn't agree. Bo didn't know. Or maybe he did.
